This is a letter that was received by Dr. Hoang
in 2004. It was written by Irene Haggard, a long-time patient, and
a former employee of former Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives,
Bill Clayton.
The ailments mentioned, and treated by Dr. Hoang,
include arthritis, migraine headaches, back pain, vision and cosmetic treatment.
I first met Dr. Hoang and became aware of his expertise
with acupuncture in the early 80's. At that time, I was working for
Mr. Bill Clayton, Speaker of the Texas House
of Representatives in
the Texas Legislature, Austin, Texas.
I first heard of Dr. Hoang through a friend, Glenn
Wallace. We worked together on the "Health Committee". He told me about
his father's experience and remarkable recovery as a result of treatments
from Dr. Hoang. Mr. Wallace had fallen from
a roof and had been in excruciating pain for several years. He was unable to do anything and
spent hours each day simply trying to get out of bed. Dr.
Hoang's treatment gave him his life back.
One evening, as I was talking with Speaker Clayton,
he complained of arthritis pain. I told him about Glenn's father, and
he asked me to check it out.
The next week, we arranged to fly from Austin to
Houston every day. Glenn arranged from Mr. Wallace to pick us up each
day. Speaker Clayton would have one treatment in the morning, go to
lunch, and then have another treatment in the afternoon.
The first day Mr. Wallace took us to an Asian restaurant
-- the kind with very low tables. As we all struggled to get down on
the floor, Mr. Wallace hopped down and up again like a teenager! He
told us he has to have a series of six or eight treatments about every
six weeks to eight months. After the series, he is able to go about
his life as usual. After several months, the pain slowly begins to
return, and he goes to Dr. Hoang for another series.
After the third day of two-treatments-per-day, Speaker
Clayton told me he was without pain for the first time in 30 years.
During the first week with Dr. Hoang, he asked me if
I would like to have a treatment. I answered "I don't have arthritis".
He laughed and explained to me the acupuncture is certainly not limited
to arthritis pain.
At that time, I often suffered
with terrible migraine headaches. On some occasions, the pain had been so intense that I had
been forced to stop my car on the side of the road. Dr. Hoang began
treating me for these headaches. A few times, I was actually having
one of the migraines when I saw him for the treatment. On these occasions,
the headache was always completely gone when
he finished. This was
in the early 1980's, and I have not had migraine
headaches since that time.
Over the years, I have taken many people to see Dr.
Hoang for one problem or another. Every time, he has been successful
in helping them.
The only exceptions to long-term changes have come
about because the person did not actually want to change. For example,
he treated my husband to help him stop smoking. However, my husband
didn't want to quit, so he began again. On another occasion, I took
a friend from treatments of panic attacks. She had been prescribed
very powerful medication with serious side effects - and was drinking
as well. Within just a few days, she was able to stop taking the medication
altogether, but she refused to stop drinking. She continued to hide
alcohol and to sneak drinks. Dr. Hoang explained to her that without
her full commitment and cooperation, it is unlikely her condition will
approve.
In addition, I have had treatments when I took others
to see Dr. Hoang. I was fortunate in usually not having a health problem
myself, so he has often treated me for vision
or for something cosmetic. Although everyone my age
has had to use reading glasses for many years, I do not and never have,
had the need for them. On more than one occasion, people have asked
my husband if he brought his daughter!
